•Armadale cafe Ondo has opened a location in the CBD, with a goal of introducing lesser-known Korean dishes to town – “we try to make food that you cannot easily find, even in Korea,” says co-owner Levin Eun.
•Two Franks has opened on Coburg’s Reynard Street, and it’s already revitalising the strip. Its owners know the area well – they grew up in a house directly across the road.

SIGN UP•The Collingwood space that once housed Congress has a new occupier – Chiaki. By day, it’s a Japanese cafe, and at night it becomes an izakaya-style wine bar with a focus on sake.
•Movida Aqui has reopened after an extensive renovation. Sleek, serious, but no less convivial – it’s never looked better. And there are plenty of new dishes to try, too.
•Beechworth’s Bridge Road Brewers has set up shop in the big smoke. Head to its expansive new Brunswick East dining hall and taproom to try its beloved beers – plus some exclusive newbies brewed on-site – and fun food from a jetsetting menu.
•Pieman’s Son, in Heidelberg Heights, may be new, but it's drawing on a long-running pastry legacy. Founder Pat Cremean is the son of the founder of Boscastle Pastries, and is using that lifelong experience to bake excellent pies, vanilla slices, sausage rolls, and more.
•Over on the Surf Coast, Torquay favourite Mortadeli has added another feather to its cap. It’s shuffled the shelves around the deli and made space for a new pasta bar serving Roman favourites such as cacio e pepe and – soon – Maltese classics.
•Charlie Carrington, of Atlas Dining, opens a new project today: Little Havana, a casual shop dedicated to the Cubano sandwich. Head over to Prahran for five takes on the Florida-born, Cuban-inspired sangas.

•Last week, Melbourne’s chefs, restaurateurs and eaters were up in arms at the news that tartare and other raw meat dishes may be forced to be taken off menus due to changes to the Food Act 1984 – read about the reaction here.
•But in contradiction to the experience of restaurants being inspected by the City of Yarra, the Department of Health told Broadsheet that there have been no changes to the food service requirements of raw meats in over 20 years. The Tartaregate plot thickens. Watch this space.
