On the street, it’s dead. But inside Jack & Daisy it’s likely to be buzzing. The atmosphere is cheerful and busy, with young couples and families happily eating and chatting away in the cosy, child-friendly surrounds.

The staff is energetic and helpful, so you won’t have to wait long for your breakfast or lunch. There’s nothing too fancy here, just simple food done well.

Grab a croissant with jam if you’re in a particular hurry, or stay a while for vanilla bean pancakes with whipped honeycomb; or bacon, egg and tomato on ciabatta. Cakes, biscuits, pastries and gluten-free goodies are also available.

The outdoor courtyard is given over to small people, with a cubbyhouse filled with toys and books. There’s also a “kidlets” menu, complete with small plates and cutlery.

If you live near this bustling community hub, chances are you’re already a regular. If not, head to Pascoe Vale to enjoy the friendly, unpretentious vibe.
