At times like this, it’s all about appreciating the small wins. Chin Chin – one of Australia’s most iconic restaurants and arguably the poster child of last decade’s “no-booking” movement – is now taking bookings for the first time ever.

Anyone who’s ever been let down by the long lines that routinely snake out of the Flinders Lane diner in Melbourne, or at the buzzy Sydney outpost in Surry Hills, will know just how big a deal this news is.

The new initiative is in place at both the Melbourne and Sydney locations.

Lucas Restaurants made the announcement in a statement released on its website, along with a host of other new measures. It is also continuing to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Kids under 12 will eat free at all restaurants (to the value of $40), and adults can choose from a complimentary beer, wine or cocktail. Chin Chin Melbourne will introduce yum cha for those dining in, and the group's other Victorian restaurants – Hawker Hall, Kong and Baby – are all offering takeaway, with free wine for orders of more than $50.

Check the statement for more information, including full terms and conditions.
