Adelaide Marriott Hotel
Adelaide’s first Marriott hotel has many compelling features – an 18-metre swimming pool, three dining venues, a city-centre location. But it’s the 285-room luxury hotel’s art collection that’s really pulling us through its handsome New York-style entry. The hotel is in a 150-year-old Grand Post Office building, and every work is made by a South Australian artist highlighting the site's stories and portraying the landscapes of South Australia. At reception, two brilliant canvases by Sandra Pumani depict an important First Nations site near her hometown of Mimil in South Australia’s Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands, and a multi-panel screen artwork inspired by Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre National Park by Jason Porter greets guests in the lobby. The property is a sophisticated reinvigoration of a historic building, paying tribute to the city’s history while offering a distinctly 21st-century hotel experience.
Within are two hospitality ventures – Penny Blue and Exchange Lane – from executive chef Alexandre Katsman. The flagship restaurant, Penny Blue, has a menu of nostalgic classics. Think prawn cocktail, kingfish gravlax, beef wellington and more.
