Marys Poppin
Anyone who’s climbed the stairs to the pulsing, neon-lit Mary's Poppin' knows this place is routinely packed with weekend party crowds seeking pop tunes and cocktails.
It was a bit of a tight squeeze, until the venue received a glittering expansion in 2018. The former Dim Dooley bar downstairs was taken over and given the same over-the-top, luxe treatment as the upstairs space: mirrored walls and ceilings, light-up go-go dancing cages, a high-tech video disco bar and a giant rainbow.
While the LGBTQI inclusive venue is a safe space for Adelaide’s queer community, it’s open to all – a formula that’s proved wildly popular. Punters flock here for a diverse range of live performances, along with retro bangers, queer anthems and modern hits emanating from the DJ booth, an old baby grand piano that’s been cleverly converted.
