Paddy’s Lantern
Features
Great coffee and simple food – since opening in 2011 the crew at Paddy’s Lantern has stood fast behind this straightforward ethos, joking about it being a cafe without a kitchen.
Despite this, it somehow manages to pull off everything from boiled eggs and soldiers to gourmet toasties and mushrooms with flat beans, salsa verde and goats curd. This is something of an upgrade from opening day, when there were just two items on the menu.
While the food options may have diversified, espresso remains the primary focus, with baristas pulling an exclusive blend crafted onsite from South and Central American crops. It’s meticulously hand-sorted to remove any burnt beans. This painstaking process ensures the coffee is invariably spot on, with the hint of diligence discernible in every cup.
Although there was never an intention to play the gallery, works by local artists and regular customers recurrently decorate the walls, providing refreshable décor and anchoring Paddy’s to its supportive community.
