Please Say Please
There’s no need to get out your phone as you squeeze into Please Say Please, because the newsfeed is on the wall. Three pages of a daily paper are always hung up like washing, clothes pegs and all, for customers’ browsing needs.
The small cafe has attracted a cult following with its selection of macarons and bronuts (aka cronuts), which change weekly. The macarons by local pastry prodigy Alex Crawford are available all week, with new flavours such as peanut m&m, pancake with salted caramel ice cream and Coca-Cola debuting every Monday. Fridays are the only day to catch the bronuts, which might be Oreo ice cream, French toast or apple pie flavoured.
Coffee is supplied by Proud Mary, which owner Wendy Dansie stuck with after buying PSP from founder Daniel Freer. It can be fully appreciated with a tasting plate that includes a short black, flat white and filter.
Fresh crop teas are provided by Storm in a Teacup and sodas by Adelaide locals Two-Bit Villains. The menu is made up of a modest selection of toasties, muesli and porridge, which is impressive considering the cafe’s shipping-container size. Toastie Tuesday is the day to try fancy combinations such as pumpkin, chilli, truffle oil, mushrooms, ricotta and fresh rocket.
