South Australia will reintroduce some Covid restrictions following new cases of community transmission in Victoria and Queensland.
As of midnight tonight, hospitality venues and other businesses will go back to 50-per-cent density arrangements (one person per two square metres).
Masks will be mandatory in high-risk settings such as hospitals and aged care and correctional facilities and for people providing personal care services such as hairdressers, beauticians and tattoo artists. They will also be required in indoor venues with more than 50-per-cent of normal occupancy. This includes places of worship, enclosed sporting venues and cinemas, theatres and concert halls.
There’s also a temporary ban on dancing and singing in public, and on shisha use. And private gatherings are capped at 150 people. There is no ban on vertical consumption in hospitality venues at this stage.
The government has also introduced new border restrictions with Victoria: South Australians returning from Greater Melbourne, Geelong or Bacchus Marsh will need to undertake 14 days of home quarantine. SA residents returning from any other Victorian region will be subject to level 3 restrictions, meaning they will need to be tested on days one, five and 13. (The 70-kilometre border bubble with Victoria remains unchanged.)
SA will no longer be lifting the border with south-east Queensland tonight as planned. But restrictions will be lifted for Townsville and Birdsville.
