South Australia has removed its hard border with the Northern Territory, Western Australia and parts of Queensland, Premier Steven Marshall announced in a press conference this morning.
That means people coming into the state from WA and the NT will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days but will still need to undergo Covid testing on days one, five and 13.
The stay-at-home order ends immediately for those currently in home quarantine. It is expected the requirement for the three Covid tests will be removed completely after Sunday.
The transition committee has introduced a “risk-based approach” for Queensland. Level 6 restrictions remain in place for people from Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Gold Coast, Logan, Redland, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset.
Level 3 restrictions – meaning mandatory Covid tests on days one, five and 13 – are in place for people arriving from Townsville and those who have attended the Big Red Bash at Birdsville. There are no restrictions for the rest of Queensland.
The move follows a winding back of social distancing restrictions on Monday. Under current rules, hospitality venues and other businesses are back to 75 per cent capacity; patrons can drink and eat while standing; bans on buffets and shishas have lifted; and dancing and singing is back.
The hard border remains for New South Wales and the ACT.
