The suburbs of Adelaide will be filled with fairy lights, Persian rugs, food trucks and live tunes once more with the return of The Porch Sessions.
The annual live-music series returns on November 27 with international headliner, Philadelphian future-soul act Son Little. Victorian Emilee South and local Aidan Jazzy Jones will be on support.
The first of eight summer shows will take place in the inner-south suburb of Hawthorn. As usual there will be plenty of local food and wine producers at each show. “We'll be pulling together a collection of old favourites and recruiting some new up-and-coming food and beverage crews,” The Porch Sessions founder Sharni Honor says.
“[We’re] amping up the cross section of locally crafted food vans." Expect coffee, desserts and drinks. “Of course Hither & Yon will be on the wines, let's be real, it’s not a Porch Session without Hither & Yon on the grapes.”
In a city often tarred for its reluctance to turn out for live music, The Porch Sessions has defied ticket-sales patterns to sell out each season in its three-year history. “[The response] has been pretty damn cool,” Honor says.
“We like to think we've curated a pretty consistent platform where people know what to expect. There's this cool element of trust that Adelaide folk have invested in us; even if they've never heard of any of the acts we book, they know that it's going to be a vibey time, and if they just so happen to discover a new artist or fall in love with some new tunes, then that is just an added bonus.”
Since its start in 2013 The Porch Sessions concept has continued to expand. With the winter edition Cellar Door Sessions, and transportive Tram Sessions under its belt, as well as the annual festival, Porchland, the team shows no sign of slowing down. Plans are currently underway to take The Porch Sessions on the road.
“It is as ridiculous as it sounds,” Honor says. “We are packing up a bunch of vans and caravans, taking three acts, a full event crew, full production and hitting the road; exploring seven coastal porches between Adelaide and Sydney over two weeks in the summer. I'm pretty damn excited about this one.”
