After nearly two decades of coffee and live music, a mainstay of the Prospect community is calling last drinks.
In a statement shared to Instagram the team said, “It is with immense sadness that Cafe Komodo announces that we will be closing mid-June 2024.”
“It has become apparent that Cafe Komodo cannot survive,” the statement continued, “As a Community cafe serving the Prospect area for over 19 years and promoting the live music scene in Adelaide, the increased costs in doing business have made it impossible for us to continue.”
It’s a sentiment shared by many in the Adelaide hospitality scene.
The venue had been on the market since November last year, but no suitable buyer has been found. In the Instagram post the owners added, “If there is anyone looking to take over Cafe Komodo, please get in contact because now is the time.”
The lounge-room-inspired space is homely with mismatched vintage furniture, strings of fairy lights and records tacked to the walls. It is currently co-owned by married couple Andrew and Bronwyn Taylor.
They urged regulars to head in and support the business in its last few weeks.
