NOLA Now Does Brunch

Kick back with fried-chicken, waffles and a Moonshine Mary.

Staying true to its New Orleans roots, NOLA has rolled out a brunch menu without a smashed avocado in sight.

The NOLA gang saw a gap in the market for a “hearty” Sunday brunch in the CBD. “We really wanted an excuse to do fried chicken and waffles,” co-owner Josh Talbot says. Add bacon, of course.

Po’ boy-style breakfast rolls keep with the theme – loaded with scrambled eggs, roasted tomatoes, garlic and thyme and topped with bacon or chorizo – with a side of hush puppies (deep-fried cornmeal balls). “We’ve been having these rolls for brekkie since NOLA started up,” Josh says. Thankfully, now the rest of us can enjoy them too.

For a sweeter start to your Sunday, try the waffles with berries and beetroot parfait, or New Orleans-style beignets: pillowy doughnuts dusted with powdered sugar.

This isn’t a break-the-bank kind of brunch – the most expensive item is $13 – so you can order up big. And as with NOLA’s dinner menu, it’ll soon be available through UberEATS.

The guys have collaborated with Victorian distiller, Melbourne Moonshine, to create a spirit specifically for their “Moonshine Mary”. This version of the classic brunch cocktail comes with tomato and fermented jalapeno, and finished with a crispy-bacon garnish. The “Kale Ale” is a hair-of-the-dog take on green juice, topped with IPA.

NOLA serves brunch on Sunday 11am to 3pm.
