Ready your colourful shirts, there’s a new food and wine festival coming to Port Elliot this summer.
From December 30 to January 1, Sam Worrall-Thompson (head chef and co-owner at Jack Ruby) will bring some of SA’s best eateries, winemakers and brewers to Harbour Masters Reserve for The Sailing Club.
“There are so many wonderful people in Port Elliot and the surrounding area, especially at that time of year, and there [usually] isn’t a whole lot on offer,” he says.
The nautical-themed festival will feature food stalls from Sukhumvit Soi 38 and Abbots and Kinney, and drinks from Lost Buoy, Howard Vineyard, Samuel’s Gorge and Stone and Wood Brewing Company. Ounce Gin will mix cocktails across the three days.
The star of the event will be the Gin Party on New Year’s Day, which is sure to ease the first hangover of the year with some hair of the dog and fresh ocean air. Each stallholder will offer a gin drink, with a glass on arrival. Although there will be plenty of the hard stuff, the event is all-ages so kids can join in too. “There’s also going to be a VIP area which actually overlooks Horseshoe Bay, it’ll fit around 120 people and it’s first in, best dressed,” Worrall-Thompson says.
With Jack Ruby up for sale, he is currently scouting venues in the eastern suburbs for a new project. “I’m looking to refine my cooking again and go back to the style I was doing at The Pot on King William. American food is fun but [it] isn’t my passion,” he says.

The Sailing Club will be held at Harbour Masters Reserve in Port Elliot from December 31 to January 1. Entry is $10 at the door. More vendors will be announced in the coming weeks.
