The food options in Adelaide are endless. There are new spots; old favourites; fancy fine-diners; and takeaway, for when you really can’t be bothered to put on pants. But the best restaurants are always the ones you can walk to.
Keeping things local narrows down your options, but there are still so many great venues to choose from. So we asked seven local chefs to share their favourite spots to eat close to home. These are their picks.
“Lobethal Road Cellar Door. It’s not only the best food close to my place, but I’d say it’s the best full stop. The food is always so delicious, simple, well cooked. No tricks, just the way I like it.” – Ali Seedsman of The Lion Hotel
“Pot in Hahndorf for awesome cafe-style fare, or Lot 100 when I’ve got time to lunch properly. Shannon Fleming, who looks after the food there, cooked for my wedding, so I’ve got a soft spot for anything he does, but it’s more than just nostalgia that makes the food there worth a drive!” –Callum Hann of Olive
“Tiki’s Thai Cuisine on Military Road is our go-to for Thai at the moment. It’s a welcome little addition to the area.” –Daniella Guevara Munoz of La Popular Taqueria
“I live north-east of the city where we like heading to our local pub, The Pickled Duck. Aside from the awesome name, they cook all their meat in their smoker or the wood oven. I generally lean towards a smoked brisket sando. The beers are cold and the service is friendly. It’s what you want within a five-minute radius from home.” – Jamie Musgrave of Restaurant Botanic
“Lockwood General is my go-to spot for a great breakfast near home. My wife and I love heading here before heading into the kitchen. It serves up great coffee in a welcoming atmosphere. My favourite dish has to be the king prawns with chilli scrambled eggs.” – Josh Cooke of Rozelle’s and Chianti
“Shosho for sure! The tempura menu is my go-to. It’s so delicious and moreish. The shallot pancakes are a must.” – Wilson Shawyer of Good Gilbert and Good Burger
“Ying Chow Chinese Restaurant. It is very friendly and it’s always open until late, which is great for people in the hospitality industry. Their stir-fries, beef claypot and noodle soup are always go-tos.” –Simon Ming of Odé
