In 2023, the festival’s full-service dining experience will be at the Adelaide Zoo, with a three-course menu by Terry Intarakhamhaeng and Sanctuary chef Jack Bird – featuring panang curry with coconut braised beef brisket, bite-sized betel leaf and prawn wraps, and lamb shoulder rubbed in sumac and toum.

After a three-year hiatus, Womadelaide’s full-service Taste the World Restaurant returns next year, led for the first time by Soi 38’s Terry Intarakhamhaeng, alongside Adelaide Zoo restaurant Sanctuary’s executive chef Jack Bird (previously at Restaurant Botanic).

Previous iterations of the pop-up sit-down restaurant have been led by Andre Ursini, Poh Ling Yeow and Jock Zonfrillo in Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla. But in 2023 it’ll be undercover and indoors, inside the zoo’s event-focused restaurant Sanctuary, looking out onto the festival vibes in the park.

Diners will get a three-course banquet for lunch or dinner (at $65 per person), with Intarakhamhaeng and Bird serving up a menu of Thai and Middle Eastern dishes, including panang curry with coconut braised beef brisket and apple eggplant; miang kham (bite-sized betel leaf wraps with prawn, caramelised palm sugar, toasted coconut, ginger, lemon and shallots); and 12-hour roast lamb shoulder rubbed in sumac and toum, and drizzled with smoked almond dressing; plus grilled flatbreads served with hummus, pomegranate and mint, and whipped ricotta and fermented honey.

For dessert, expect coconut sticky rice with mango and roasted sesame seeds, plus a selection of halva and Turkish delight.

It’s a stark contrast to the festival’s food-stall fare, with table service, crockery, cutlery, glassware and a full wine list.

Bookings are essential as space is limited, and all diners must have a valid ticket to Womad to gain entry. More information here.

Womadelaide runs from March 10–13, featuring headliners Angel Olsen, Bon Iver and Florence & the Machine.
