The light, bright and airy cafe is also serving popcorn cauliflower and a fried-chicken burger “the size of your head”.

“Dude, you’re on Shit Adelaide.”

That’s what Aimee Kempster, co-owner of newly opened Torrens Park cafe Yeah Nah Yeah, heard from her sister at 11pm last Tuesday. Her first thought: “Uh oh”.

The Instagram account, which has 215,000 followers, is tirelessly devoted to sharing the good, bad and weird goings-on in our city. But luckily for Kempster its post about her cafe was a two-fold tick of approval for its “awesome” name and glowing neon sign. The Yeah Nah Yeah Instagram account has racked up more than 1000 extra followers in the week since.

Find it IRL just outside Mitcham Square Shopping Centre (home of must-try Portuguese-tart-haven Saudade) on Belair Road. It’s replaced homey cafe Nana’s Kitchen Table, which Kempster took over last year before shutting up shop in October for renos and a rebrand.

Six months later it’s light and bright, with a blush-pink, neon-clad feature wall, sleek black furnishings, and dangling greenery. Outside there’s a new breezy, fenced-off seating area (which may eventually double as a beer garden – there’s talk of a liquor licence).

The menu is a mixed bag. “I’ve been to so many [brunch] places hungover where there’s nothing [greasy],” says Kempster. Not here. Replenish with a “big, fat” eggs Benny, a hash-brown stack with all the breakfast trimmings, or a fried-chicken burger “the size of your head”.

For something lighter, there’s granola-topped breakfast panna cotta and a dainty beetroot-and-fig number with chevre. Vegan options include Korean-barbeque-style jackfruit bao buns and popcorn cauliflower. There’s also a cabinet-full of ready-to-go sangas.

Muffins and tarts are baked in-house, and coffee is by Underdale roaster Show Pony (a second, premium label by the illusive BLK MRKT team.
