After starting life as a sports supplement and health food store, Nutrition Republic evolved into an organic espresso bar and all-round clean-eating mecca.

The menu has many of the classics you’ll find at any other cafe, but the big difference is that everything is free from gluten, dairy and refined sugar. Breakfast favourites include chia puddings, bircher muesli and paleo granola. For lunch try a salad or quinoa, vegetable and biodynamic egg slice.

The premium D’Angelo coffee is poured double ristretto and does allow for dairy. The beans aren’t organic, but the locally sourced milk is. However, the coconut milk lattes are a worthy dairy-free option.

Even if you’re not so much a raw foods person, you can’t go wrong with the raw cakes and bars for dessert. Dairy- and sugar-free dessert might not sound too appealing, but it’s just as good as the traditional counterpart, with the sweetness created by natural sweeteners such as berries and vanilla beans.

While the cafe is a picture of health, it still has a comfortable corner-store-style atmosphere. And if dining at Nutrition Republic turns you to clean eating, you can stock up on health foods in the retail store at the back.
