The Boom Boom Room

Sure, it's hidden under Chinese restaurant Donna Chang. But the Boom Boom Room is more than just a pre-dinner drinks spot. This underground bar is a destination in itself – with table service. Order a spirit and the staff will bring a trolley to your table with a selection of mixers.

Entry to the Boom Boom Room is either off Elizabeth Street or through Donna Chang. After descending a flight of stairs, you’re greeted with a mural painted by Brisbane artist Matt Stewart. The old-fashioned aviation imagery hints at the meaning behind the name; “boom boom” refers to American B-52 bomber planes.

The heritage-listed space was formerly used as a bank basement, and the old vaults have been turned into private rooms. The space is dimly lit with lots of dark blue and gold trim. There are plenty of leather lounges, and a couple of very comfy seats constructed of reclaimed material from the old bombers.

As well as a heavy focus on cocktails, guests can buy their own bottle of whisky from a locked cabinet. Then come and drink it at their leisure. Some of the bottles are rare. The bar offers an abbreviated Donna Chang menu, featuring many of the dim sum and snack options from upstairs.
