Bar Alto
It's the riverside spot everyone in the city has been to, given its location within the Brisbane Powerhouse. It's also the bar that people flock to even when they're not seeing a gig or performance.
Since 2010, Bar Alto has given those heading to New Farm's former power station turned arts precinct another reason to visit the area – or reasons, to be more accurate. The vibe is of the casual variety, for which balmy late afternoons and early evenings are made. Bring your mates and plan to stay as long as you like.
And then there's the Italian cuisine. For many places, food from the boot-shaped country means pizza and pasta. While that's true at Bar Alto, that's not all it has to offer. Owner Simon Hill oversees a menu abundant in modern twists, including the very popular antipasti da dividere selections.
Indeed, sharing Alto’s marinated olives, creamy salt cod croquettes or crispy fried pigs ear and trotters is the perfect snack to accompany a drink on the deck. The only task remaining is to choose from the extensive wine list. Or, stick with the Italian theme and enjoy an affogato.
