Zeus Street Greek
When Crust Gourmet Pizza founder Costa Anastasiadis decided to swap pizza dough for pita bread, things were bound to get interesting.
Teaming up with George Kyrprianou Pony Dining, Anastasiadis introduced Zeus Street Greek to Sydney before launching the first Queensland branch at South Bank. Described by Anastasiadis as a “fresh casual Greek food movement”, diners can expect to find authentic Hellenic fare in a breezy setting.
Housed in the former Chocolate Pavilion space, Zeus does away with the tired Greek taverna cliches of blue and white chequered tablecloths, overpriced calamari rings and Zorba on repeat. If the warm space enveloped by a rustic colour palette and an open kitchen doesn’t draw you in, then the deftly-executed menu and Greece lightning service will.
At Zeus, you’ll see skewered meats slowly rotating on custom-built rotisseries as well as Hellenic-inspired salads piled as high as Mount Olympus. Naturally, it would be silly to leave without trying one of the signature souvlakia.
Go old school with the paprika-flavoured pork souvlaki or make it fancy with the soft crab souvlaki with Aegean slaw, preserved lemon mayo and caramelised onion. Zeus also keeps things on-trend with gluten-free souvlaki bowls sans pita.
Finally, cap off your feast with a serving of loukoumades (deep fried honey balls) topped with crushed walnuts, washed down with a Greek wine or Mythos lager.
