After eight years in Camp Hill, brunch favourite Picnic Cafe expanded to West End in 2021 with a much bigger, brighter and breezier venue. Natural light streams in through its many windows, and the interior is a mixture of neutral colours and materials with sage accents. The whole package is set off by a neon “Picnic” sign on the back wall.

While the original Picnic favours classic brunch fare, the menu here leans heavily on Asian influences. The Wagyu Scotch egg – accompanied by a pickle salad and kimchi-inspired dressing – is a crowd favourite. Other highlights might include the pork-bulgogi benny served on a sweet potato croquette, or fluffy cream-cheese pancakes with berry compote and pistachio praline.

The Asian influence carries over to lunch with Korean-style fried chicken, udon noodles with brisket and tiger prawns, and more.

Picnic is renowned for its vibrant smoothies, so the team took it a step further at West End. A range of signature cocktails is available from 10.30am, with names such as Lavender Lady (made with lavender syrup, blueberries and vodka) and Pretty in Pink (pink gin, prosecco and pomegranate).

Expect those famous smoothies, too, as well as coffee by Paradox Coffee Roasters, and a straightforward selection of wine and beers if you’re dropping in later.
