This Saturday, October 29, was supposed to be the grand opening of East Gippsland’s $12 million Metung Hot Springs, the latest venture from the team behind Fingal’s wildly popular Peninsula Hot Springs. But wild weather across the state has thrown a spanner in the works.

“Victoria is experiencing a significant rainfall event, having a direct impact on our construction and commissioning schedule for completion,” managing director Adrian Bromage said in a statement.

“After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule the opening of Metung Hot Springs until November 18, 2022, to ensure the safety of our employees and guests.”

Bromage added that a dedicated reservations team is making contact with people who had bookings between October 29 and November 17 to reschedule their visits.

Metung Hot Springs sits on a 12-hectare site on a hilltop escarpment, with hundreds of metres of Gippsland Lakes frontage. There are 10 luxurious lagoon-side, safari-style tents – each with a four-poster king-size bed and private ensuite. They each contain private bathing barrels, meaning you can soak in solitude around the clock.

The original Metung Hot Springs closed in the early ’90s but its mammoth development is a joint project between the Peninsula Hot Springs team and East Gippsland tourism operators Rachel and Adrian Bromage.

Metung Hot Springs’ new opening date is Friday November 18.
