There are views and then there are views. And a sweeping panorama of the Southern Ocean is definitely the latter. Red Rock Hut is perched at the edge of a 32-acre oceanfront property in Bungaree, on the west coast of Tasmania’s King Island.
The tiny home has full-height windows and glass doors (double-glazed for year-round comfort) so you don’t miss even a glimpse of the rugged landscape from sunrise to sundown. The west-facing deck, which features a built-in hammock and outdoor firepit, is the perfect spot to take in the scene, with a soundtrack of crashing waves. And then there’s the cedarwood-fired hot tub and barrel sauna, which offer a similarly impressive vantage point. You also have private access to the beach below.
Inside, a queen-sized bed sleeps two. The kitchen is small but mighty – you’ll find a two-ring gas burner, full oven and coffee machine among the amenities – and there’s a Weber on the deck for al fresco cooking. A wood-burning fireplace keeps things cosy as needed. The eco-conscious accommodation runs off solar power, has a compostable toilet and uses freshwater from a nearby natural spring.
