Vasse Felix
12:00pm - 3:00pm
Vasse Felix (established in 1967) was the first winery in the Margaret River region and remains one of the best.
Entry is down a long private road lined with tall Karri trees. Between their grand trunks, you can catch views of rolling hills and rows of vines. Park the car; walk past the sculpture park and into the cellar door. The lounge area to your right could be straight out of an interior-design magazine, ultra-modern hanging fireplace and all. There’s an art gallery off the main cellar door area, too.
Vasse Felix specialises in chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. You can taste a huge range of both at the cellar door, alongside sauvignon blanc, shiraz and more obscure varietals.
Upstairs, modern Australian cuisine merges with Asian flavours and techniques. Just about everything in the kitchen is made from scratch, including kangaroo pastrami. Native ingredients such as saltbush and Geraldton Wax appear without fanfare alongside exceptional local produce. The five-course tasting menu changes daily and is well worth the $95 price tag.
