You can now shop some of Victoria’s most-loved social enterprises – IRL – in one place.

Queen Victoria Market has just opened The Purpose Precinct in the breezy String Bean Alley: a hub for the products and services of more than 20 socially focused businesses, which – through their work – help create more opportunity, inclusion and impact.

The precinct was spearheaded by social enterprise Streat, which has cafes across town and assists young people in their transition to the workforce, and bike store Good Cycles, which has a similarly empowering mission.

“We’re excited to call Queen Victoria Market our new home,” Good Cycles CEO Jaison Hoernel said in a statement. “The Purpose Precinct will create a front door for social enterprises to work together to engage community, and deliver products and services to help people, places and the planet to thrive.

“Our ambition is to see hundreds of Victorian social enterprises represented in the precinct over the coming years, all working together not only to create better cities, but also meaningful employment opportunities for Victorians.”

Here, find statement-making threads from burgeoning Aboriginal label and social-activist platform Clothing the Gaps; streetwear from Homie, a local label combatting homelessness; and lovingly handmade accessories and homewares from Sister Works, which supports women who are refugees, asylum seekers or migrants.

Also on the opening roster of businesses is Free to Feed, Mildura Chocolate Co, Kakadu Plum Co and Kenshi Candles.
