Does the regular Ikea experience leave you feeling overwhelmed by choice?

If so, the Swedish homewares juggernaut has opened a new, tiny-by-comparison store at Melbourne’s Highpoint Shopping Centre that might be more your speed.

An Australian first, the Plan and Order Point is a place for you to get personalised, one-on-one advice if you’re in the market for any of Ikea’s more complex home-furnishing products and services (beyond the all-too-familiar Malm range).

“We hope to welcome customers … that may have found creating complex solutions, such as a kitchen or wardrobe system, too daunting to tackle alone,” manager Julian Pertile said in a statement.

Nothing on display is available to buy and take home (and there are no Swedish meatballs). Instead, it’s more of an inspiration-encouraging space, which lets you see how your dream kitchen or bathroom could come together. Then you’re be able to order what you need for delivery or pick-up at a nearby Melbourne collection point.

If all goes well, more Plan and Order Points will be rolled out across the country.

Ikea’s Plan and Order Point opens at Highpoint Shopping Centre on Thursday September 29. Book an appointment online.
