It may be called BeerMash, but that's not all this bottle shop and bar offers. There are 20 taps built into the yellow-tiled wall behind the counter. At any one time you're likely to find cider, kombucha, cold-brew coffee and a couple of wines being poured here with a dozen or more craft beers. New stuff is always coming in.

The taps are often used to fill reusable growlers (or half-sized squealers) to take home. But BeerMash also has a license, which allows you to drink at any one of the high tables scattered inside the venue, or one of the many benches lining the footpath outside. If none of the draught options are doing it for you, select one of 200 bottled beers from the fridges and shelves.

Owner Kieran Hennessy (co-owner at Rockwell & Sons) is a veteran of both the craft beer and Smith Street hospitality scene. He's joined by partner Shayne Dixon, who also co-owns Fitzroy neighbourhood bar, Bonny. They select new beers with help from their personable staff. Everyone has different tastes, so chances are, if you like beer – or cider, kombucha, coffee, wine – there's something here for you.
