Primrose Hill Deli
Features
Primrose Hill is a charming neighbourhood cafe and foodstore that serves simple fare, allows quality produce to shine, and makes excellent organic coffee.
Owners Fran Roberts and Gabby Evans began reviving this neglected end of Hawthorn Road with the opening of their flagship establishment Marmalade Cafe in 2009, before pouring their passion for food into a new deli venture, literally a stone’s throw from Marmalade’s front door.
Inside Primrose Hill, the worn shelves of reclaimed dressers are laden with everything from truffle pastes, infused oils and locally made nougat to jars of Syrian figs and organic quinoa, while an array of local and imported cheeses compete for cabinet space alongside salamis, cabanos and cured meats.
The space is scattered with small tables, where customers can sip their Syndicate coffee and eat homemade hummingbird cake from a pretty china plate, as they decide which of the dishes to take home for dinner from the delicatessen area.
Outside, the garden provides a sunny sanctuary for a lazy brunch of smoked salmon scrambled eggs with Dench sourdough; or baked eggs with homemade Napoli sauce and Persian feta.
