Eydie’s
Features
Owners Chris, Penny and Hodges, formerly of the Great Britain in Richmond, reveal a more refined side in this stylish yet unpretentious bar on their northern home turf. Crackling LPs offer a nostalgic soundtrack of Motown, swing and seventies pop, drifting from a record player that sits atop the custom-made bar top of black lace in resin.
The drinks list is similarly discerning, with a handpicked selection of mid-range wines and craft beers (all strictly Australian). The line-up changes seasonally and the bar staff are only too happy to discuss their latest discoveries, though there are also Melbourne Bitter longnecks for those who yearn for simple things.
Venture out back and you’ll find a spacious garden courtyard – an easy spot to lose a summer evening amid the flowers and climbing plants.
Like many of the bars on this strip, Eydie’s makes up for the lack of a kitchen by encouraging patrons to order from the many nearby restaurants, and there’s a solid range of Thai, Middle Eastern and Italian options within shouting distance. The good folk at Eydie’s will even plate up the food for those who can’t bear to eat out of their noodle box. But they’ll encourage you wash it down with something from the tap.
