Monique Thomas and Olivia Mangan racked up experience in the clothing resale industry before opening Goodbyes Brunswick in 2015. Here, they help others enjoy the democratising experience of shopping seconds first.

The clothing and accessories group aims to make shopping second-hand more desirable than buying new. Its hybrid consignment model – where staff consign clothing donated by the public – means it can offer a broad range of quality pieces at fair price points.

Brunswick was the first Goodbyes store and remains the flagship, even as newer stores have opened in Collingwood, Prahran, Canberra and Hobart. Like many of its other outposts, the shop’s design is industrial leaning – open-plan, clad in light-grey concrete with sage-green details throughout.

You’ll find a mixture of Australian and New Zealand labels, international designers, genuine vintage and well-made basics that cater to both masculine and feminine styles. Floor-to-ceiling windows display highlights from the store’s current offering, hanging the silhouettes from chains.

Brunswick has the most amount of stock running through its doors with more than 1000 pieces consigned each week. The racks are brimming – don’t worry, they’re colour coded – and stock rotates so regularly you’ll likely encounter dozens of new pieces every time you visit.
