In a press conference on Tuesday morning, Premier Daniel Andrews made a significant vaccination announcement.

Notably, all Victorians aged 16 to 39 will be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. From 7am tomorrow – Wednesday August 25 – 830,000 first-dose appointments will begin to be made available at all 55 sites across the next four weeks. Of the appointments, 450,000 are for Pfizer and the remaining are for Astra Zeneca.

“They will all be filled, I’m sure, and that will mean we will achieve our one million doses over five weeks,” Andrews said. “In fact, I think we will exceed [that].”

Research has proven both the Astra Zeneca and Pfizer vaccines to be effective in mitigating the effects of Covid-19. But on top of that, getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to help the state – and the country – bounce back. It’ll help to avoid serious illness, and lessen the tumult that comes with the pandemic: lockdowns, social distancing, limited capacities and more.
