Atet – Melbourne’s first floating open-air club, moored in Docklands – went up in flames overnight.
A spokesperson for Fire Rescue Victoria told Broadsheet the fire has been “deemed suspicious”.
The fire on North Wharf Road started at 4.32am. Six fire trucks attended the incident, the spokesperson confirmed, and it was brought under control in 15 minutes. The extent of the damage is currently unclear.

SIGN UPBuilt on the Alma Doepel barge, Atet has room for 550 people. And, modelled on the European day-clubs of Mykonos, Ibiza and Berlin, the two-storey, 570-square-metre venue was set to become a new hub for the city’s electronic music scene.
But the response wasn’t all positive. A spokesperson for the City of Melbourne told Broadsheet in November that the council received more than 140 noise complaints from nearby residents on Atet’s opening weekend, October 22 and 23.
Organisers said they had planned to dock the mobile venue in its current place for a year.
