Deputy chief medical officer, Doctor Nick Coatsworth, says it’s unlikely Melbourne’s
stage-four lockdown will end in two weeks.

“It’s hard to see that happening, I’ve got to be honest,” Dr Coatsworth told Channel 9’s Today this morning.

“I think that we’re going to have to see the numbers down where they’re controllable. That is the numbers that you are seeing in New South Wales and Queensland at the moment. You can see the effort that it takes to control numbers between about five and 10 per day.”

In a press conference today, Premier Daniel Andrews said he’ll announce a “detailed roadmap” for easing restrictions on Sunday September 6, after another week of data has been recorded.

It comes after 73 new coronavirus cases were reported today. Victoria’s daily case number dropped to double digits on Saturday for the first time since July 5.

Stage-four lockdown came into effect on August 5 with an intended end date of September 13.
