Earlier today Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed that from tomorrow, Melbourne will be moving to step two on the government’s “road map to reopening”.

Up to five people, from a maximum of two households, will now be able to meet outside, in a public place. This is one of several dozen changes announced. (See the full list of changes here.)

But one you may have missed is that from tomorrow, scarves, bandanas and face shields will no longer be considered acceptable face coverings in Victoria. There will be a two-week grace period on enforcement, to allow people still missing face masks to acquire one.

“With more people moving across the city, our public health team have advised the rules around wearing a mask need to be strengthened,” the premier said. “As I’ve said before, wearing a face covering is a small sacrifice – but it makes a huge difference in keeping all of us safe.”
