Non-essential services across Victoria will be shut down over the next 48 hours, Premier Daniel Andrews has announced. This follows a similar announcement by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian earlier today. The two leaders will outline their plans at a national cabinet meeting tonight.

Under both plans, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, petrol stations and convenience stores will remain open. Likewise, freight, logistics and home delivery services will continue operating. It’s understood that all Victorian schools will be closed from Tuesday. The premier did not mention cafes, restaurants or bars in his statement, but it’s unlikely these businesses will be deemed essential services.

The premier will be making a more detailed statement about the shutdown tomorrow morning.
