Inner-city Melbourne could be getting eight new off-leash dog parks as part of a new City of Melbourne proposal.
To be considered at tonight’s Future Melbourne Committee meeting, the plan would see the number of dog parks in the municipality double – adding 3.5 hectares of parkland for puppy play to the existing 16. In total, that’s nearly 10 MCGs' worth of new dog-dedicated space.
It includes areas for our four-legged friends to roam in Eades Park in West Melbourne; Kingsway and Moray Street Reserve in Southbank; Murchison Square in Carlton; Point Park and Ron Barassi Senior Park in Docklands; Riverside Park in Kensington; Royal Park (Manningham Reserve) in Parkville; and Wellington Park in East Melbourne.

SIGN UP“Through several rounds of engagement, we’ve heard from our local community, and we know that taking good care of their furry friends is important to them,” Lord Mayor Sally Capp said in a statement.
With dog registrations up 20 per cent in the past two years, “We see a need to up the ante when it comes to designated spaces for pooches large and small to run free – to exercise and socialise with their friends.”
