From 11.59pm on Sunday January 17, Melbourne’s masks rules are changing.
In a press conference on Thursday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that the city would be reverting to the rules that were in place over Christmas.
Instead of face masks being mandatory indoors, as they were from New Year’s Eve, they will only be required in “higher-risk” indoor settings, Andrews said.

SIGN UPThat includes indoor shopping centres; supermarkets and department stores; indoor markets; on public transport and in rideshare vehicles; and in large crowds where physical distancing can’t be maintained.
Also from next week: 50 per cent of private-sector employees and 25 per cent of public-sector employees can return to their offices, where masks will no longer be mandatory.
