New city-wide coronavirus restrictions have been announced in response to yesterday’s outbreak in the City of Whittlesea, in which four new cases were identified across two separate households.
A fifth case in the City of Whittlesea, also linked to the two households, was found and confirmed after 8pm yesterday. Genomic sequencing has been completed and indicates that all five cases are linked to the recent case in Wollert, which was traced back to South Australia’s hotel quarantine system.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Acting Premier James Merlino outlined the restrictions, which will come into effect from 6pm tonight and affect all of Greater Melbourne.
