After nine consecutive “double doughnut” days of no new coronavirus infections or deaths in Victoria, Premier Daniel Andrews this morning confirmed a further easing of restrictions. As planned, the boundary between Melbourne and regional Victoria will reopen from 11.59pm tonight, with the rules that currently apply to regional Victoria now applicable across the entire state.
For Melburnians, this means:
- The 25-kilometre rule is scrapped. From tomorrow you may leave home for any reason and travel as far as you like, although those who can work from home still should.
- Each day, you may have two different adult visitors at your house, either together or separately. Dependents of the visitors are excluded from visitor caps if they cannot be left unattended or cared for in another setting. Any intimate partners of those who ordinarily reside at the household being visited are excluded from daily visitor caps.
- Restaurants, cafes and bars can serve 40 patrons indoors and 70 outside, subject to density limits.
- Theatres and cinemas can resume operating, with up to 20 people per space.
- Indoor live music is back, but should be held outdoors where possible. Performers must be five metres from the audience and maintain a two-metre gap from one another. Performers are excluded from venue cap.
- Indoor exercise and fitness classes can resume with a maximum of one people per eight square metres, 10 per space and a total of 20 per venue.
- Indoor pools are open, with a maximum of 20 people or a density quotient of one person per four square metres – whichever is lower.
- Community spaces such as libraries can have up to 20 people indoors, in groups of no larger than 10.
- Accommodation is open again.
