In a press conference this morning, Premier Daniel Andrews said the further easing of restrictions planned for November 1 could be brought forward.
“I think we’re well-placed to reach the point on the weekend where we can talk more about possibly bringing forward some of those changes that were slated for November 1,” Andrews said, adding that there could be “very significant announcements about a further step to opening”.
The changes planned for November 1 include scrapping the four reasons to leave home, reopening hospitality and retail under Covid-safe conditions, and allowing households to host up to two people and their dependents once a day.

SIGN UP“We still have a few days, obviously, to run this week and things can change rapidly,” Andrews said. “But Victorians, I think, and particularly Melburnians, can be confident, can be absolutely optimistic, that the strategy is working.”
It comes on a day where Melbourne may have actually recorded zero new cases of coronavirus, with a chance the one case reported is an old infection. “That case today ... may well be an instance of shedding the virus, a perfectly natural process, well after your original positive test,” Andrews said.
