On Wednesday we reported that Pasta Al Dente, a specialty Italian grocer in Tullamarine, had been affected by fire.

We published a video of what appeared to be the business on fire, adding that Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) had confirmed it was responding to a blaze on Assembly Drive in Tullamarine, where the grocer is located.

Since publication, Pasta Al Dente co-owner Lena Chiodo has clarified it was a neighbouring building that caught fire. “The factory next door to ours was on fire, and … it interrupted our operation today due to emergency services trying to take control,” Chiodo told Broadsheet on the day.

FRV says 10 FRV appliances responded to the scene, along with three aerial appliances, a rescue appliance and support units, with approximately 60 firefighters present. But a spokesperson told Broadsheet Pasta Al Dente was only “affected by water run-off” created by the firefighters putting out the blaze.

Pasta Al Dente is among Melbourne’s best specialty Italian grocers, known for its crusty panini, olive ciabatta rolls and mezzaluna loaves.

And it’s business as usual from today.
