In light of South Australia’s six-day hard lockdown, Victoria will shut its border to SA from 11.59pm tonight.
Premier Daniel Andrews announced the news in a press conference today, after Victoria recorded its 20th day with no new coronavirus cases.
A “hard border” will be introduced for 48 hours, prohibiting South Australians from entering Victoria unless they are freight drivers, or have medical or emergency reasons. After that two-day period, on Saturday, a permit system will be instated.

SIGN UP“Victorians have worked too hard and given too much to allow anything to put at risk our goal of reaching Covid-normal by Christmas,” Andrews said. “We’ll do whatever it takes to keep Victorians safe.”
Prior to South Australia’s hard lockdown, residents were free to travel to Victoria – but there were restrictions on returning.
South Australia was also due to reopen its border to Victoria on December 1, but it’s currently unclear whether that date remains firm.
