After almost two weeks, Victoria’s lockdown is lifting at 11.59pm on Tuesday July 27. But a raft of restrictions will remain in place. Here’s what you need to know.
From 11.59pm on Tuesday July 27:
• The five reasons to leave home will no longer apply.
• The five-kilometre lockdown radius will lift, permitting travel around metro Melbourne and to regional Victoria. (Though visitors and workers are only permitted to travel to alpine resorts provided they’ve had a negative Covid test in the previous 72 hours.)
• Face masks will still be mandatory in all indoor and outdoor settings across the state.
• Home gatherings won’t be permitted for at least the next two weeks.
• Public gatherings will be allowed though, with a limit of up to 10 people.
• Gyms can reopen with a density limit of one person per four square metres. The same applies to live-music venues, dance classes and physical-recreation facilities.
• Hair, beauty and personal-care services can resume – including those where a mask cannot be worn.
• Accommodation can be booked by members of a single household or single bubble and intimate partners.
• Hospitality venues can host up to 100 people, with a maximum group size of 10. But 25 people will be permitted in venues before the one-person-per-four-square-metres density quotient kicks in. Only seated service is permitted, and dance floors are banned.
• All retail can reopen with density rules in place, but smaller venues (of less than 100 square metres) can have 25 people inside before the limits apply.
• Offices can operate at 25 per cent capacity, but working from home is still recommended for those who can.
• Weddings can be held with up to 50 people. Again, dance floors aren’t allowed.
• Funerals can go ahead with up to 50 people.
• Religious gatherings can go ahead with up to 100 people indoors and 300 people outdoors, subject to the one-person-per-four-square-metre rule.
