“This milestone is huge, and it means we can get back to something very close to normal life – our state thriving, the MCG packed, businesses open and families back together,” Premier Daniel Andrews wrote on Twitter.
With 90 per cent of Victorians over the age of 12 set to be fully vaccinated in the coming days, Victoria’s restrictions are changing tonight, in line with the state government’s road map.
From 11.59pm on Thursday November 18:
• There will be no limits on gatherings in the home or outdoors, though it’s strongly recommended everyone is fully vaccinated.
• Masks will only be required in high-risk indoor settings, settings where there are low vaccination levels and settings where you cannot physically distance. Those include retail, health care, aged care and justice facilities, plus primary schools and on public transport, and in taxis and rideshare vehicles.
• Hospitality, retail and entertainment venues can operate at maximum capacity, although they will need a Covid-safe plan and can only open to those who are fully vaccinated. And dance floors will return.
• Workplaces are open, but you must be fully vaccinated if you are working somewhere that’s only for fully vaccinated people (i.e. a restaurant), or if you are worker or volunteer who is required to work outside your home.
• Indoor and outdoor events with less than 30,000 fully vaccinated attendees will be able to go ahead with no special approval; they will only need to publish a Covid-safe plan.
• Vaccination requirements will remain, including for non-essential retail.
