Australia is experiencing its worst flooding in a decade, with parts of eastern Australia being ravaged by devastating, fatal weather conditions. (Here are some ways to help flood victims from afar.)

But today, in Victoria, East Gippsland has been hit with heavy rain – and a final flood watch was issued for parts of the region at 11.55am. Minor flood warnings were also issued for the Cann and Genoa rivers, as well as the Snowy River.

While the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) confirmed the rain in East Gippsland is linked to the severe weather in Queensland and New South Wales, it took to Twitter to confirm Victoria would not see the same flooding and rainfall as our northern neighbours:

Moisture is wrapping around a trough and low-pressure system off the NSW coast, according to the BOM.

“This is directing rain across far-eastern parts of Victoria,” it wrote on Twitter. But, the “system will track [south-east] over the coming days, ensuring the heaviest rain and intense storms bypass Victoria.”
