Features
High-performance athletes and baked goods might seem like strange bedfellows.
Yet when a space opened in cycle-apparel shop Pedla, it seemed like the perfect spot for Gareth Whitton and Catherine Way to expand their cult bakery, Tarts Anon. When the couple opened their first shopfront on Gwynne Street in Cremorne (after a year of the tarts selling out online) they knew it wouldn’t be their last. Plus, Whitton is an avid cyclist (he got into it when he started as head pastry chef at Dinner by Heston).
Tarts Anon 2.0 occupies Pedla’s front corner, with the same white subway tiles on the wall and long bench cabinet filled with tarts as the Cremorne OG. Tarts are available by the slice in flavours that could include the signature pear, the classic lemon and a crowd favourite of caramel and chocolate custard. It’s a rotating menu with plenty of specials, while you can pre-order whole and half tarts online.
There’s also coffee from Square One, and a seated area out the front to stop and eat (read: inhale) your perfectly gooey tart.
