The all-white ceiling, floors and walls, along with the neon-white signs create the illusion of walking into a bright, glowing star. Pops of colour appear in the form of squishy, hot-pink and green squid key rings that are scattered throughout. They’re alien-like. Perhaps that’s the idea; this is Spacebound, after all.

This concept store by Joshua Space was in the making for six years before it opened in September 2016. Space sees the concept of bringing products together as a bit like family – with brands and people. He works with new friends that have a similar view of creating and sharing. Spacebound’s stock might be diverse, but its unifying features are forward-thinking design, and all of it comes from like-minded brands and businesses.

A collection of black and navy leather pouches, clutches and cardholders look like they’re suspended in midair. There’s a line of monochrome T-shirts hanging off industrial-style pipes. And there’s a glass box filled with twisted gold and silver jewellery by Hamish Munro, who Space met while snowboarding. Drifter parachute backpacks hang above the counter.

Also in-store are TID watches; books by Perimeter Books in Thornbury; and vinyl from Rich Records that focus on’80s and ’90s hip-hop and soul.
