Just three years after opening at Pentridge in Coburg, Palace Cinemas is preparing to bring its intimate, timeless charm to another neighbourhood: Moonee Ponds.
The 11-screen Palace Penny Lane Cinema opened to the public days before Christmas last year with an advanced premiere of Michael Mann’s Ferrari, starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz.
Each theatre is equipped with 4k laser-projection tech and fully reclining velvet chairs. There’s also a 12th screen on the rooftop, for summer viewing. And expect Palace’s usual licensed bar, featuring fine wines, beers, popcorn, choc-tops and other treats. Despite these familiar touchpoints, the company has made sure the new cinema caters to locals’ needs and doesn’t look exactly like its 20 counterparts around Australia.
