There’s been a bumper crop of new bricks-and-mortar openings in Melbourne over the past few months. While online shopping is quick and convenient, there’s nothing quite like the IRL experience. Heading out on a shopping day soon? Here’s where to make a stop.
Sarah & Sebastian Exhibition Street
Sydney-born jewellery label Sarah & Sebastian already has three stores in Melbourne: a cave-like Armadale outpost, a pint-sized CBD spot on Crossley Street and a stall in Chadstone Shopping Centre. Now the brand welcomes a new flagship on Exhibition Street – its biggest space yet. The monolithic venue embraces its signature minimalist and futuristic aesthetic with reflective surfaces, stainless steel display units and sleek curves. Head in for its wildly popular soldered bar, or book into one of the two piercing rooms with its Ear Alchemy service. And if you’re looking for something really special, there’s also a gallery-style fine jewellery library fitted out with smoky grey walls and gleaming display boxes.

Sir Armadale
Up until now, Melbourne fans of Bondi-born label Sir have shopped its luxe, lived-in linen silhouettes online, at David Jones and boutique stockists, or at IRL warehouse sales. So the opening of its first local flagship is welcome news. It’s fittingly located along High Street Armadale’s shopping stretch, joining other Aussie designers including Venroy, Camilla and Marc, Dion Lee and Lee Mathews. The light-filled space features chocolate accents, stainless steel tables and soft furnishings. Pop in to shop the label’s new spring/summer collection as well as its signature silhouettes and jewellery range.

Aussie fashion giant Dion Lee’s new Melbourne flagship spans across two floors featuring marble, stone, metal and bronze accents throughout the space. Designed by Stockholm-based studio Stamuli, it’s sleek, futuristic and edgy, speaking to the brand’s tailored and experimental silhouettes. There are chunky benches, exposed ceilings and black leather couches fastened with straps. It’s all about the experience here.

Neuw Denim Armadale
Neuw Denim is a local staple when it comes to quality, casual comfort. The brand first found its feet in Fitzroy in 2009 and has now expanded its footprint to High Street Armadale, a natural progression given the success of its first store. The new spot boasts high ceilings, rich dark wood finishes and polished concrete, complemented by brass accents and soft textures. Racks are stocked with Neuw’s signature Nordic sensibility including popular styles like the Lexi and Edie jeans.

Housed on the ground floor of Chadstone Shopping Centre, the shop features the brand’s signature Cold Room set to -25 degrees Celsius – housing real ice sculptures – to test the warmth, quality and craftsmanship of Canada Goose’s designs. Shop from its entire men’s, women’s and children’s range, from parkas, lightweight jackets and rainwear, to apparel, accessories and footwear.
