Living among indoor plants is nice. But if you’re anything like most Melburnians, keeping them alive can be a struggle. And, unfortunately, the fake ones from K-Mart don’t look half as good at dinner parties.

Plant by Packwood is here to help. The store opened in mid-2016 and stocks air plants, a family of ferns and a collection of terrariums. Owners Charlotte Nicdao and Bayden Packwood Hine designed it with serial plant killers and urban residents in mind.

There was a pattern between the couple. Green-thumbed Packwood Hine would give Nicdao plants she would inexorably kill. So he made her a terrarium – a miniature, self-watering ecosystem in a fishbowl.

Plant by Packwood was born soon after. The store feels like a human-sized terrarium itself, thanks to four transparent walls.

It sells an exotic array of house plants that are attractive, unique and easy to care for. The terrariums even more so. With intricate landscapes and beautiful glass chambers, each one is a conversation starter.
